Bunk beds were big in his day

American humorist Ring Lardner was born today in 1885.

"You know what Barnum said," Lardner once wrote. ("There's a sucker born every minute.") "Well, he didn't go far enough. They like to be bunked, but what they like most of all is to bunk themselves."
